Naijareadfest: Redefining Nigeria’s Reading Culture, One Page at a Time

Updated: Aug 18

Five readers united by passion, envisioned by a purpose and committed to one goal. Just one goal. A goal to inspire, ignite and promote reading as a tool for unity, growth and development.

Nigeria Reads is officially launching a nationwide literacy campaign tagged Naijareadfest, scheduled from the 12th to the 30th August, 2025. This campaign aims at rekindling Nigeria’s love for reading through a series of impactful activities, culminating in a Guinness World Record attempt for the Longest Marathon Reading Aloud by a team.

Five marathon readers, each representing Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, will read aloud continuously for 424 hours across 18 days. This symbolic attempt is not just about breaking a record, but igniting national pride and cultural consciousness through reading.

The reading list will feature works exclusively by Nigerian authors, from the new and emerging voices and contemporary voices, in the literary spacing. Naijareadfest will showcase and celebrate the richness and diversity of the Nigerian literary fountain.

Beyond the Marathon

The campaign extends far beyond the record attempt. Naijareadfest will feature:

  • Creative workshops on writing, spoken word, illustration, and storytelling

  • Interactive author sessions, fireside chats, and panel conversations

  • Pop-up exhibitions and networking hubs for creatives

  • Family-friendly reading spaces and children zones

  • Fun book activities and celebrity guest appearances

Having spent over a decade promoting literacy in both urban and rural communities in Nigeria, Nigeria Reads has witnessed the transformative power of books. Naijareadfest is a new chapter of Nigeria Reads, turning the page, changing lives! Our mission is to bring books to where they are needed the most, empowering minds, sparking imagination and nation building.

This campaign is our loudest call yet. We are not just organising an event; we’re launching a movement that puts literacy at the centre of national growth.

A Positive Mark on Tomorrow

Naijareadfest aims to reach over 100,000 attendees in person and an estimated 30 million viewers online and across national broadcast platforms. The campaign will connect authors, teachers, publishers, creative, and entertainers with audiences of all ages.

This campaign isn’t just breaking a world record. It’s about inspiring a nation. Seeking to remind people that our stories and art matter, our voices count, and that reading is key to both personal growth and national development.

Whether you're a lifelong reader, a parent seeking to inspire your children, or someone simply seeking a unique and enriching cultural experience, we invite you to be part of this transformative campaign.
