LEAVE A LEGACY

The value of a legacy to the Royal Commonwealth Society

Leaving a legacy is an impactful way to help ensure the valuable work of the Royal Commonwealth Society continues well into the future. Legacies provide a vital source of income, allowing us to plan and expand our work to achieve our mission.

Remembering us in your will is a way of ensuring that we can continue to improve the lives and prospects of all Commonwealth citizens across the world through youth empowerment, education and high-level advocacy, whilst we continue to champion literacy, equality and inclusion, the environment and connected communities across the Commonwealth’s 54 nations.

Including a legacy to the Royal Commonwealth Society in your will is straightforward.  You can make a gift of a specific sum of money or a proportion of your residual estate. If you have already made a will, you can add a codicil which we are happy to supply. Leaving a legacy to a charity might also reduce inheritance tax.

How to leave your legacy

If you would like to leave a gift in your will, we strongly recommend you that you speak to a solicitor to ensure that your wishes will be carried out as you intend.

You will need to take the following details with you:

  • Royal Commonwealth Society

  • Registered address: 65 Basinghall Street, London, EC2V 5DZ

  • Registered charity number: 226748 (England and Wales)

An example of wording you could use:

"I leave my / X share (s) of my residuary estate for the Royal Commonwealth Society, 40-41 Pall Mall, London, SW1Y 5JQ, registered charity number 226748 (England and Wales), absolutely for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors."

LETTER OF WISHES

If you have a Charities Aid Foundation Charity Account, you may want to adjust your Letter of Wishes to include the Royal Commonwealth Society. A Letter of Wishes is a legal document which you use to provide instructions on how the balance of funds should be distributed on the closure of your CAF Charity Account. That way, you can rest assured that the remaining money will go to the causes you care about the most. By completing a Letter of Wishes now, it can make the distribution of funds a very straightforward process.
