The Commonwealth Youth Photography Competition 2026: Waves of Change is now open for entries. Ran by the Royal Commonwealth Society in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the City of London Corporation's Youth Natural Environment Board, the competition invites young photographers aged 18 to 30 from across the Commonwealth's 56 member nations to document the ocean and its relationship to communities, environments, and the future.
Entry is free, and no prior photography experience is required.
The Theme
Waves of Change asks young people to look at the ocean through their own lens. Whether capturing the beauty of a coastline, the impact of rising seas on a coastal community, or the ingenuity of those working to protect marine environments, entrants are invited to tell a story that matters to them.
The Categories
Entries are accepted across four categories:
Human-Ocean Connection
Hope and Resilience
Threats and Challenges
Innovative Solutions
How to Enter
Entrants submit one original photograph and a written statement of up to 300 words. That is all. The competition is free to enter and open to anyone aged 18 to 30 who holds citizenship or residency in a Commonwealth nation.
The Prizes
There are four category winners in total. The overall winner, selected from those four, receives a cash prize of £1,000. The three remaining category winners each receive £250.
The Deadline
Entries close on 8 June 2026 (World Oceans Day).
